Physical inactivity and smoking increase risk for serious infections in older women
Article Abstract:
Physical inactivity and smoking have been found to increase risk of serious infections in older women based on findings of a study that looked at health and behavioral risk factors for infections requiring hospitalization in 1,365 postmenopausal women enrolled in a large health maintenance organization (HMO). The causal link has not been explained and further research is needed.

The value of serum albumin and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol in defining mortality risk in older persons with low serum cholesterol
Article Abstract:
Research suggests that high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol and serum albumin levels are an effective means of mortality-risk prognosis among older individuals with low serum cholesterol. Low albumin indicates high risk, low HDL cholesterol and high albumin indicate intermediate risk, and high HDL cholesterol and high albumin indicate low risk.
