Underutilization of controller and rescue medications among older adults with asthma requiring hospital care
Article Abstract:
A study suggests that providers caring for indigent older subjects with moderate to severe or potentially fatal asthma were not following the guidelines of the National Asthma Education Prevention Program. Underutilization of inhaled anti-inflammatory agents, beta-agonists, and resue corticosteroids was documents, despite frequent outpatient medical care visits.

APOE 4 and hip fracture risk in a community-based study of older adults
Article Abstract:
The allele APOE 4 and hip fracture risk have been investigated in a community-based study of older adults. Whether or not an increased risk would be independent of dementia and history of falling was of interest in this prospective case-control study. It was found that having the allele is likely a risk factor independent of effects of dementia and falling. Alterations in vitamin K metabolism might be a medator, but caution should be used in interpreting results.
