A longitudinal analysis of environmental equity in communities with hazardous waste facilities
Article Abstract:
The commercial hazardous waste treatment, storage and disposal facilities (TSDFs) are located in proportionately poor and non-minority communities. The commercial TSDF census-tract communities are largely white and disproportionately industrial working-class residential areas. The TSDFs have not alleviated the minority percentage in the encircling communities and the longitudinal changes are same as those in other industrial areas. Contrary to these findings many environmentally related causes of morbidity and mortality have disproportionate affects on the minorities and the poor.
