Access to sexuality information for out-of-home youth
Article Abstract:
Most young people in out-of-home care have complex sexual backgrounds including multiple sex, sexual abuse, neglect and multiple pregnancies. A survey of public child-welfare agencies conducted by Child Welfare League of America reveals that people in out-of-home care lack knowledge on sexuality. A survey in the 50 states and the District of Columbia reveals that only 9 have written policies on adolescent pregnancy. The ten states with the highest number of out-of-home youth lack a policy on sexual education and family planning.
