An economic analysis of the prenuptial agreement (Marieh) in contemporary Iran
Article Abstract:
A survey of 511 Iranian couples showed the influence of social, cultural and economic values on the mahrieh, the financial prenuptial agreement of Iran. These factors include occupational and economic background, economic status, kinship patterns, as well as the youth and appearance of the women. Some significant results include a major influence of the socioeconomic status of the woman's family on the value of the mahrieh. Other results state the lack of influence of family ties between spouses, and less concern about intercity marriages.
