An empirical evaluation of profit cycle theory
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to evaluate key hypotheses of Markusen's (1985) profit cycle theory on regional growth, which combines supply-side influences on production cost with a cyclical demand framework that integrates natural growth with the decline in demand for specific products. The test conducted over eight US sectors showed that the decline in sectoral employment is not as rapid as the growth in the economy. The study also showed the need to consider alternative specifications, such as profit cycle theory modification, and unique sectoral characteristics, to predict sectoral development accurately.

A double-entry method for the construction of bi-regional input-output tables
Article Abstract:
The Netherland's double-entry bi-regional construction method (DEBRIOT) is an alternative way of constructing regional input-output tables. It simplifies tabular data by eliminating the use of mechanical coefficent methods to calculate regional trade coefficients. It also employs a non-survey method to gather data on regional domestic sales. Although DEBRIOT's main weakness is its composite quality, it presents a more comprehensively accurate and systematically unbiased repesentation of the subject regions' input-output structure.

Regional financial segmentation in the United States
Article Abstract:
Regional differential responses to US national monetary policies were tested using a simple regional money supply model. Statistical analyses indicate that national policy and interregional trade has considerable impact on regional money supplies. This regional economic composition differences may affect the money flow through the US states. Results suggest that the Federal Reserve cannot help regional monetary difficulties.
