Can weighting compensate for nonresponse bias in a dependent variable? an evaluation of weighting methods to correct for substantive bias in a mail survey among Dutch municipalities
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to analyze nonresponse bias in a mail survey in Dutch municipalities on the implementation of a national policy on caravan sites. A number of weighting methods were used to correct nonresponse bias, a serious problem in survey research. Variables considered in the study correlate with the policy performance of the municipalities. Findings indicated that weighting by one or two independent factors does not produce better results.

Potential sources of observer bias in police observational data
Article Abstract:
Secondary analyses of data from a large-scale observational study of police are used to assess the impact of three out of the four type of observer bias that include reactivity, going native, and burnout. Moreover, potential sources of observer bias are identified and a limited test of its impact on police observational data are conducted.

Collinearity, bias, and effect size: modeling "the" effect of track on achievement
Article Abstract:
Several linear models are presented and evaluated for estimating concepts such as track placement on academic achievement. It is posited that models with poor statistical fit may still be applicable for interpretive use, provided that predictor variable collinearity exists.
