Comment: the private and its problems - pragmatism, pragmatist, feminism, and homophobia
Article Abstract:
Neopragmatists such as Richard Rory have failed to comprehend the ways in which John Dewey's concept of social intelligence was bound up with the case for participatory democracy. Efforts to determine the potential of pragmatism for supporting specific types of feminist and gay critical theory can lead to a more compelling reconstruction of pragmatism. However, the success of such initiatives to harness survey research to pragmatist criticism will difficult to determine and will correlate with social-historical factors determining critical social science.

Toward pragmatist methodological relationalism
Article Abstract:
A study analyzes relationalist approaches to social sciences in terms of a conceptual distinction between ephilosophizing sociologyE and esociologizing philosophyE, which mark two different attitudes towards philosophical metaphysics and ontological commitments. It contrasts its methodological relationism of Deweyan origin with Pierre BourdieuEs namesake, arguing that even though BourdieuEs theories are of practice, they remain rather unpractical as regards to appropriately serving actual research work.

Socializing democracy: Jane Addams and John Dewey

The contributions of Jane Addams and the women of the Hull House Settlement to pragmatist theory that were formulated by John Dewey influenced its emancipatory emphasis. A version of pragmatism feminism was developed and associated with various types of contemporary feminist issues. These include the manner of inclusion in society of diverse persons, the strengths and limitations of standpoint theory, and the need for feminist ethics to adopt the social nature of morality.
