Article Abstract:
The number of senior proposals submitted to the Cultural Anthropology program of the National Science Foundation has been steadily declining. This is surprising because the foundation, which has created initiatives to attract anthropological research, provides the biggest financial support for research in cultural anthropology. The primary reason for the decline may be misconceptions by anthropologists that reductions in federal funding have resulted in limited financial support from the foundation.
