Components of Growth of Income Maintenance Expenditure in Ireland 1951-1979
Article Abstract:
Public social expenditure in Ireland is examined from 1951 through 1979. Public social expenditure rose from fifteen point nine per cent of GDP to twenty-six point five per cent in 1979. Income maintenance programs have contributed significantly to this rise. Health and unemployment benefits have increased the most rapidly. Further research into the causes of the growth are suggested.

Article Abstract:
Demographic trends in Ireland since the famine are analyzed with data from a single representative community. A steady decline in population occurred until 1966. Agricultural specialization is a recent phenomenon, causing income differences among farmers. Locally gathered data is found preferable to aggregate data.

Components of Growth in Current Public Expenditure on Education and Health
Article Abstract:
Public expenditures for health and education for Ireland from 1961 through 1979 are examined. Study is made of transfer changes, demographic changes, and changes in relative costs. Growth in expenditures is largely due to changes in the cost ratio. Further study is suggested.
