Concepts of Learning and Experience in Developing Solar Thermal Technologies
Article Abstract:
Solar thermal technologies are more expensive than conventional energy sources. Costs will be reduced over time, but how to estimate potential cost reduction is an important concern. If those technologies that are more cost effective could be determined then there could be better direction for research and development and commercialization. The authors develop cost estimation techniques that take into account learning and experience curves in the development of solar products. They develop a cost scenario using a prototype heliostat. Because historical costs did not exist for some components, the surrogate concept of cost estimation of similar components was used. Drawings, graphical displays and tables of data accompany the text.

Development-environment interactions in the export of hazardous technologies: a comparative study of three multinational affiliates in developing countries
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted on the environmental and developmental concerns involved in the transfer of hazardous technologies. Results showed the importance of environment on the facility siting process. The interactions between the host country and multinational corporations were also analyzed. The study showed that corporate stress on environmental issues involved in faclity siting generally produced positive results.
