A corporate benefits executive discusses the importance of dynamic leadership in promoting quality improvements in the health care industry. Purchases of health care services need to initiate efforts to promote changes in the health system and facilitate continuous improvements in the industry. A high-level chief executive or financial officer with a proactive leadership style can act as a channel to promote positive developments in health care.

Quality at a crossroads
Article Abstract:
Several issues surrounding the health care industry were discussed at the National Roundtable on Health Care Quality sponsored by the Institute of Medicine in Oct 1997. The attendees discussed the nature and scope of problems associated with the quality of medical practice in the country. They also analyzed ways to enhance clinical quality through financial incentives, regulation, competition and continuous quality improvement.
