Direct-care healthcare workers: you get what you pay for

Article Abstract:

Healthcare worker positions have traditionally been structured on the assumption that there would always be a sufficient supply of working poor interested in providing this service. This has proven to be incorrect, and future qualities in this field must include reasonable training standards, a living wage and benefits, and employee support.

'We couldn't do without them': the value of close relationships between older adults and their nonfamily caregivers

Article Abstract:

This article discusses the relationships between non-family caregivers and dependent older adults. The author argues positive relationships between nonkin caregivers and the aged greatly enhances the quality of life for both parties involved and must be taken in consideration when making policy decisions.

The impact of sociodemographic change on the future of long-term care

Article Abstract:

Disability rates are declining, yet by 2050 the number of people requiring long-term care will double from 2000 levels. Availability of long-term care workers will probably depend on wages paid, participation patterns of older workers, and immigration.
