Economies of Scale for Various Types of Manufacturing Production Technologies in an Underdeveloped Economy

Article Abstract:

The magnitude of the role which economies of scale play in economic development is addressed using a flexible functional form and simultaneous estimation of returns to scale and elasticity substitutions for India's manufacturing sector. Christensen Jorgenson and Lau's transcendental logarithmic cost function is employed. Different specifications of production technology featured in comparison research parameters of equations are assessed with maximum likelihood techniques. Tables showing factor substitution elasticity data comparisons are made to the Cobb-Douglas approach. India's manufacturing sector shows clear evidence of the existence of economies of scale. Growth of the raw materials supply will cause manufacturing to grow in India.

The effects of risk on education in Indonesia

Article Abstract:

Risk is decomposed into household and aggregate village components to study the ex ante effects of risk on education in Indonesia. It is suggested that children's education act as an insurance to protect household consumption from aggregate village risk and that there is no distinctive household risk that affects education.
