Peter Szondi was an active participant in Walter Benjamin's postwar reception, which shifted critical focus onto Benjamin's literary accomplishments. The deep kinship between them is explored through a comparison of Szondi's book "An Essay on Tragedy" and Benjamin's "Origin of German Trauerspiel".
