Factors affecting perceptions of workplace sexual harassment
Article Abstract:
A survey was conducted to determine the different interpretations of sexual harassment in ambiguous social-sexual situations at work. Data were analyzed based on contextual factors that may determine how respondents perceive behavior. The results revealed that male behavior was often seen as harassing than female behavior. Behaviors were more likely to be considered as harassing when the two parties have not previously socialized, when harasser occupied a higher position than the victim, when harassment occurred in a work setting, and when harassment was made through verbal comments.
