Gay and lesbian seniors: Unique challenges of coming out in later life
Article Abstract:
Senior Action in a Gay Environment (SAGE) has helped elder gays and lesbians by acting as a substitute relative, as a senior center, a place to form new relationships and as a therapy group. Some gay and lesbian seniors approaching SAGE are seeking out a gay-identified organization for the first time, and many members have kept their gay identity to themselves. Gay and lesbian seniors face the same struggles associated with ageing as everyone else, but may feel isolated due to years of internalized homophobia.

Gay and lesbian aging
Article Abstract:
As today's gay men and lesbians grow older they are likely to become more interested than their predecessors in having their needs met by traditional social services. To meet those needs more research needs to be done on the role of sex in the lives of older gay men and lesbians. In the past, there have often been social obstacles to such research, but currently a more promising climate for such research is emerging.
