Getting the lead out
Article Abstract:
The Residential Lead-Based Paint Hazard Act of 1992 has been passed by the 102nd Congress and signed by Pres George Bush. The bill requires housing owners to remove lead-based paint hazards in all housing facilities in the most efficient way possible. Agencies such as the EPA, the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health and the Dept of Housing and Urban Development will devise and implement educational and training strategies. The development of a training program necessitates the evaluation of the degree of lead exposure before assessment of the areas and the tasks to be performed can be determined. Local housing agency employees and residents should be involved through dissemination of information on possible lead dangers. The maintenance should also be properly capable of determining lead threats so that illness among residents and agency workers can be avoided.

Getting a good paint job
Article Abstract:
The proper execution of a paint job can influence how the staff, the residents and the community feel about a public housing development. Well-painted housing inspires pride, while a poor paint job can bring down the morale of residents, staff and the surrounding neighborhood. Apart from making public housing more attractive, paint also provides structures with a strong coating that helps protect them from the elements. A good paint job can be achieved in three simple steps: planning, preparation and painting. The first stage is planning, in which the surfaces to be painted and the choice and quality of paint to be used are considered. The next stage is preparation which entails the cleaning of surfaces to be painted. The final stage is the painting itself, which should be done by professional quality painters iffinances would permit.
