Biotechnology in forestry: technological and economic perspectives
Article Abstract:
Biotechnology holds significant promise in the field of forestry in the long run. It offers researchers opportunities to develop techniques to increase timber harvests and conserve the forest ecosystem. However, policies concerning biotechnology applications in forestry should be improved to hasten the rate of innovation in this field. Public funding for biotechnology and forestry research should also be increased to promote the creation of new technologies transferable to forestry.

Institutional support for technological improvement - the case of Hungary
Article Abstract:
The transition of institutions that support technological innovations to a market economy was studied. Specifically, the Hungarian machine tool, pharmaceutical and automobile parts sectors were surveyed to determine their manufacturing restructuring strategies. The results showed that technology development institutes suffered when capitalism was introduced because demand for their services tapered off and they could not meet the demand for testing or quality control services.
