Greece: regional planning policy in the 1980s
Article Abstract:
The Greek government launched a series of regional planning operations during the 1980s which are aimed at alleviating regional inequalities, providing residential privileges to citizens and improving the economic status of metropolitan districts. Despite the potential of these initiatives in promoting physical planning and regional development, they were inefficiently implemented by government officials due to structural problems. A majority of these programs failed due to lack of technical assistance, inefficiency of planning process, stringent federal requirements and minimal public participation.

Planning in the age of globalization
Article Abstract:
The 1990s have witnessed significant changes in urban and regional planning placing the very existence of the discipline under closed observation. In particular, important changes during this period have been going through the contents of regional planning. The transition from Fordism to post-Fordism initiated the industrial restructuring process throughout the 1980s and modified the economic and spatial organization of society at the local, national and global levels. The agenda for planning in the 21st century that incorporates 'the region' as the point of reference is discussed.
