National technology gaps and trade - an empirical study of the influence of globalisation
Article Abstract:
The globalisation hypothesis states that greater economic interdependence among nations will lead to a diffusion of research and development and technology investment, resulting in a reduction of the significance of a nation's technological condition as a factor in trade patterns and competitiveness. A cross-country analysis of 48 nations indicates mixed results using two methods. The first approach does not support the hypothesis while the second one is inconclusive, showing a relation between technology investment catch-up and technology-intensive manufacturing trade performance in only some newly industrialized countries.

Sociotechnical constituencies, game theory, and the diffusion of compact discs. An inter-disciplinary investigation into the market for recorded music
Article Abstract:
The introduction of the compact disc in 1983 signalled a new period in the constituency of recorded music. The CD was marketed as a higher-quality product that could be sold at a higher price than analogue records and music cassette tapes, permitting record companies to set higher price levels in the market. Examination through the use of sociotechnical constituencies and game theoretical analysis reveals that high CD prices do not necessarily indicate corrupt practices of the industry but may be seen in the context of the difficulty in changing established price levels in the market.
