How competition is viewed across cultures: a test of four theories
Article Abstract:
A study was carried out to show that whether competition is seen as a force for good or for ill is shaped by a range of forces including a society's shared cultural and economic experience and oneEs individual background and beliefs. Results showed that the competitive values were consistently related to Protestantism at the individual affiliation and cultural religious history levels more so when structural factors were controlled.

The article examines how projective identification is used as a defense mechanism to help individuals when faced with a threat of an ecological or environmental hazard. The case of Israeli soldiers diagnosed with cancer after exposure to a polluted river highlights the complex interaction between the soldier-sons and their parents.
