Insulated steel doors
Article Abstract:
Steel doors filled with energy-efficient insulating foam combine the best features of stile and rail wood doors, solid core wood doors, and hollow metal doors. The foam that forms the core of the doors is more stable than wood doors and is not susceptible to the expansion and contraction resulting from changes in temperature and humidity, thus eliminating the problems of sticking doors and increasing the life expectancy of the units. In existing public housing more doors than door frames need replacing, which led to the development of the replacement door concept. The benefits of insulated steel doors include greater security, easier installation (less disruption to the brickmold, storm door or siding material), the elimination of the need for special-sized doors, availability of the doors from several sources, and lower maintenance costs.

Selecting software
Article Abstract:
Housing authorities are likely to find the task of buying off-the-shelf software and customizing it to their particular needs a frustrating, expensive and often a waste of time. Software packages include programs, languages, and routines controlling the operations of the computer systems by solving problems or performing a specified set of instructions. It is likely that housing authorities will benefit from using the services of software houses that specialize in developing software for specific applications, but before a decision is made, users must consider the cost of the alternatives, the benefits each provides, and the goals of the program. Topics to consider when selecting a vendor are discussed.

Software vendors list
Article Abstract:
A directory of software vendors selling packages of interest to public housing managers is provided, listing the names of and programs provided by 21 software publishers. It is recommended that the managers shop around for the software package that best serves their individual needs, and to that end the listings include information on the types of programs provided by each and the applications for which they are suited. Each entry is concluded by a paragraph describing the software provided by the publishers and the systems on which they run, as well as the name, address and telephone number of a contact at the company.
