Job characteristics and employee well-being: a test of Warr's Vitamin Model in health care workers using structural equation modelling

Article Abstract:

Structural equation modelling was used to test the nonlinearity of the relationship existing between job characteristics and employee well-being. Warr's Vitamin Model was used to test the relationship of the three job characteristics: job demands, job autonomy and workplace social support , with three key indicators of employee well being: job satisfaction, job-related anxiety and emotional exhaustion. The model showed a curvilinear relation between most of the parameters tested, supporting the nonlinearity of the relationship between job characteristics and employee well-being.

Long-term consequences of burnout: an exploratory study

Article Abstract:

Early career burnout does not lead to long-term negative effects. A study of 25 social service practitioners reveals that individuals with a higher degree of burnout early in their careers are more likely to find job satisfaction and stability later. They are also more likely to remain in the same career and take a more flexible approach toward work. Late career burnouts, however, produce long-term consequences.
