Knowledge codification and the geography of innovation: the case of Brescia mechanical cluster

Article Abstract:

An investigation of manufacturing firms in the Brescia region of Italy gives an insight into the concepts of knowledge 'tacitness' and 'codification.' It is suggested that knowledge does not flow freely within the boundaries of a manufacturing cluster, but that it circulates inside a number of smaller 'epistemic communities.'

Inter-project learning: processes and outcomes of knowledge codification in project-based firms

Article Abstract:

Issues concerning the learning abilities of project-based companies are discussed. It has been possible to develop a structure to assess and interpret companies' approaches to project-to-project learning. It is suggested that it is not sufficient to regard knowledge codification solely as an outcome.
