Lacan for cinema today: The uncanny pouvoir de la verite
Article Abstract:
An attempt is made to bring together psychoanalysis and film by focusing on the most disruptive and potentially subversive Lacanian notion that of the Real is presented. The main cinematic concepts of editing, suture and gaze are reassessed through Lacanian theory, while their theoretical and political potential are measured against the work of Italian directors Michelangelo Antonioni and Pier Paolo Pasolini.

Cinematic symptoms of masculinity in transition: Memory, history and mythology in contemporary film
Article Abstract:
Psychoanalytic and cultural theories are used to explore contemporary shifts in hegemonic masculinities through a discussion of their representation in mainstream cinema. The potentially positive and negative implications for the kind of identifications and affective responses that are opened up for the spectator and the readings that are created as a result are explored.

A pro bono psychoanalyst/consultant at a residence for homeless women in Philadelphia shares her experience highlighting the interplay between social class and desire and thus, suggesting that the analyst's position might be that of a good-enough saint. She has found most cogent to that work the ideas of Donald Winnicott and those of Jacques Lacan.
