Filling a gap for the homeless and toothless
Article Abstract:
Dentist Blanaid Daly holds weekly clinics for homeless people in the crypt of St Martin-in-the-Fields church, Trafalgar Square, London, England. The charity for the homeless, Crisis, provides a grant for Ms Daly's community health work. She visits many community centres to treat homeless people, giving them extra time and support. Most patients are men. Often their teeth are in extremely bad condition. She takes her equipment with her and sterilises it at home.

Article Abstract:
Gigi Santow rightly believes that women in poor countries become unhealthy because of the social roles that are imposed on them and the cultural norms that constrain them in many ways. Such a burden also affects their children. However, Santow's introductory remarks may be misunderstood in the sense that it may lead some to assume that developing countries have the worst social policies while Western nations always pursue a more ethical policy.
