Location of innovating activities, industrial structure and techno-industrial clusters in the French economy, 1985-1990. Evidence from US patenting
Article Abstract:
French companies patenting in America from 1985 to 1990 were investigated to gain better understanding regarding the distribution of innovating activities, industrial structure and techno-industrial clusters in the French economy. Three, such as transport and mechanical engineering, of the several techno-industrial clusters present in the French economy were noted to be highly beneficial to the country's system of innovation. Companies investing heavily in research and development were found to be engaged in highly complex techno-industrial clusters.

Innovation, networks, and vertical integration
Article Abstract:
The influence of institutional structures on the technological development and economic growth of firms is analyzed. Results show that existing technological structures do not provide definite solutions to growth. The effectiveness of structures depend on the nature and scope of technological change in the industry as well as the impact of product life-cycle patterns. Governments should also allow firms to develop their own structures to suit their needs.

NTBFs - the French case
Article Abstract:
An analysis of new technology-based businesses (NTBFs) in France reveals that survival rates are higher than that of other start-ups and that there is very little public policy specifically targetted at NTBFs. The study also reveals that higher survival rates are likely the consequence NTBFs being able to build effective networks linking big business, universities and non-profit organizations.
