Making sense, talking sexuality: India reaches out to its youth
Article Abstract:
The three-year family life education program developed by Parivar Seva Senstha (PSS) has raised the awareness of Indian youth regarding the physical, emotional, and social aspects of adolescence. A survey revealed that they lacked knowledge about sexually transmitted diseases, reproductive system and sexuality-related issues. PSS introduced the term family life education for students and teachers of all age groups as it faced problems in the terminology of sex education. The program also succeeded in dispelling myths about family planning prevalent among Indian youth.
