Market, family, and state sources of income instability in Germany and the United States
Article Abstract:
A comparison of income stability in the US and Germany found a greater tendency for household income to be stable in Germany than in the US. The difference is partly caused by greater income turbulence in the US and partly by Germany's public social insurance system. It is tempered by the private, family-based insurance system in the US.
