On-the-job search in a developing country: an analysis based on Indian data on migrants
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted on the determinants of job hunting in developing countries. Job searching in the Indian urban labor market was used as the sample. Results showed that workers with lower wages compared to their alternatives were more likely to search. Most of the migrants in the sample depended on informal job searching channels, especially on friends and relatives. Workers in the informal sector were also found to be more likely involved in job hunting than those from the public sector or large private-sector organizations.

Sociohistorical factors in institutional efficacy: economic development in three American Indian cases
Article Abstract:
A comparative analysis of sociohistorical circumstances in three Apache reservations in the southwestern US was made to identify the organizational and institutional factors that make economic development possible. The results show that the formal social mechanisms with which individual and collective actions are organized and regulated interact with informal mechanisms such as rules, norms and interpretations. The path to economic development process is smoother when there is synergy between formal and informal mechanisms.
