Occupational structure, wages, and migration in late nineteenth-century England and Wales
Article Abstract:
Differences in socioeconomic status and occupational structures caused migrational movements from the agricultural sector to more productive economic areas in late 19th century England and Wales. These out-migrations from agriculture resulted from decreased demand and wages in farm labor due to technological advancement and increased incomes in the non-agricultural sector. Proximity to growing industrial areas and the economic role of agriculture in certain districts also accounted for these intersector migrations.

International migration and income distribution in the Philippines
Article Abstract:
The impact of migration on household income and its distribution in the Philippines is determined by examination of data from the 1991 Family Income and Expenditure Survey. Using two approaches in the investigation, results show that emigration increases income inequality. Likewise, increases in incomes also increase the welfare of households while inequality reduces it. Thus, emigration appears to improve social welfare by increasing household income.
