On the relationship between country sex ratios and teen pregnancy rates: a replication

Article Abstract:

Issues concerning the connection between a country's sex ratio and teenage preganancy rates are discussed. Based upon an analysis of societies for which detailed UN information on population structure and teenage childbearing is available, the sex ratio explains 38% of the variance in teenage birth rates. Early childbearing can be seen as an adaptive response to poor marital opportunity.

A casual model is proposed for evolutionary social sciences (ESS) that are grown from evolutionary psychology in order to understand the variation in violent crime and single parenthood across time, countries, economic classes and ethnic groups. ESS has offered universal explanations for social behavior that can be used in any place, time or historical context.

The sex ratio as a predictor of cross-national variation in violent crime

Article Abstract:

Cross-cultural research presented concerns the relationship between a country's sex ratio and its levels of interpersonal violence among men and women. Findings suggest cross-national variance in violent crime is more associated with family variables than ecological factors.
