Personality Differentiation in a Police-Selection Intervew
Article Abstract:
Currently, Australian police departments choose applicants by traditional selection methods using biographical, physical and character criteria. The present study probed the oral interview process, applying the California Psychological Inventory (CPI) factors in selection of policy personnel. The purpose of the investigation was to evaluate hiring techniques and selection policy regarding potential police recruits. CPI traits include social maturity, intellectual efficiency, value orientation and capacity for status, among a total of twenty-two components. The research elicited personality data which suggested social conformity patterns among the men; no coordinated policy was demonstrated for women. There is a likelihood that these results echo selector-difficulty in terms of assigning masculine job suitability criteria to female applicants.

Police abuse: can the violence be contained?
Article Abstract:
A hypothetical Metropolis demonstrates the legal, political and social issues involved in preventing police misconduct. Constitutional procedural questions regarding the validity of search warrants, arrests without cause, use of excessive force as well as issues of liability of the city for training of officers, the officers' personal racial motivations, and the reluctance of police to report abuses by other officers reveal the complexity of the problem. Internal reform of police departments has brought about more prevention than judicial decisions or involvement by the government.

Urban violence: health consequences and costs
Article Abstract:
Various forms of violence abound in urban areas. The diversity of cultural, racial and religious backgrounds in urban areas encourages numerous conflicts. Health care services can help prevent urban violence through the rehabilitation of drug addicts. The strong correlation between urban violence and youth should prompt health care services to focus on rehabilitating young drug addicts. It is also very important to provide effective outpatient care to drug addicts.
