Predicting the future: lessons from evolutionary theory
Article Abstract:
Predicting future technological trends cannot be accomplished with the use of single perspectives. Understanding the evolution of technology requires a an understanding of the mechanics of Darwinian evolutionary theory. The ability to anticipate surprises, interactive events and the divergence and convergence of technologies is needed to accurately predict the future. This requires the development of individuals with the requisite knowledge and visualization capabilities.

Environmental uncertainty, futures studies, and strategic planning
Article Abstract:
The strategic planning approach integrated with a futures study and tested on a large insurance company is presented. The importance of futures studies in terms of its contribution to information processing in an uncertain environment is also discussed. Results of the implementation in the insurance company indicate that futures studies can be effectively used in strategy formulation.
