Product testing
Article Abstract:
Independent testing laboratories are excellent resources for public housing purchasing agents, since the labs offer free advice. These labs help the agents find out about the quality of the products being purchased and compare the test reports of competing products. Manufacturers who provide a Notice of Product Certification assure the quality of their products by subjecting them to unannounced inspections during the manufacturing process. As a final check on product quality and correct installation, many housing authorities require quality checking as the product is being installed.

The max-min-min principle of product differentiation
Article Abstract:
Two subgame-perfect equilibria are determined when all consumers consider the two attributes as similarly significant. In each of these equilibria, companies are maximally differentiated on one attribute and minimally differentiated on another. Furthermore, when firms are minimally differentiated on one attribute, they attain central roles on that attribute. When consumers differently weigh attributes, in which one attribute has markedly greater significance than the other, only one equilibrium retains.

A framework for model and product family competition
Article Abstract:
A model is developed to illustrate the factors that affect product competition. The model provides a multi-level description of product competition by using product family, model variety and rate of replacement change to integrate concepts of product innovation, product choice, technological change and differences in customer perceptions. Certain aspects of dynamic behavior not considered by other models are also provided.
