Representations by direct multidimensional scaling: Co-Word-Based Maps of Chemical Engineering

Article Abstract:

A new approach to solving problems in co-word analysis is presented. A mapping technique based on direct application to word co-occurence data matrix of multidimentional scaling is used in co-word analysis in chemical engineering. Word maps based on data from experts, journals and a conference were created and discussed. Co-word analysis has been found to ber useful in presenting overviews of particular fields of studies. It may also reveal new relationships and structures that have not been examined previously.

Comparative analysis of a set of bibliometric indicators and central peer review criteria: evaluation of condensed matter physics in the Netherlands

Article Abstract:

Gauging a region's technological advancement through bibliometric parameters can best be effected by by a central peer review procedure where professionals in the field evaluate a sector's progress by means of the research published. This was proven by the strong correlation shown by the results of a peer review with bibliometric indicators in a study conducted on the progress of the Dutch condensed matter physics sector. Expert opinion formed a large basis for the correctness of the evaluation.
