Gifts for home purchase
Article Abstract:
One in every five first-time home buyers receives monetary help from relatives in paying for down payments. These monetary aids contribute to paying for almost half of the total down payment. In 1992, these contributions totaled $2.5 billion for first-time buyers and $1.9 billion for repeat buyers. Mortgage lenders favor these contributions and see them as safety nets when the buyers encounter economic difficulties.
