Simultaneous estimation of seed-fertilizer adoption decisions: an application to hybrid maize in Malawi
Article Abstract:
Most empirical investigations of high-yielding variety adoption have used single-equation models although simultaneous models are more apt. An econometric application of a model for hybrid corn adoption in Malawi shows that adoption decisions are composed of choice of technique, choice of land allocation between techniques and level or rate of fertilizer application. Differences between the magnitude, signs and significance of coefficients and in predicted probabilities of adoption are emphasized when single-equation and simultaneous regression results are compared.
