Article Abstract:
The commercialization of plant biotechnology products led researchers to question the motivation of various organizations that use this technology. Economists claim that firm-specific resources rather than firm business categories fuel research efforts of chemical and pesticide companies. This motivation prods them to produce a diverse range of genetically modified plants to answer commercial needs.

Management of intellectual property rights in European biotechnology firms
Article Abstract:
The ways in which European biotechnology companies manage their inventions are discussed. Particular attention is given to the use patent protection. It is concluded that patents are a significant incentive for research and development, although they are used in many different ways.
