Succession of technologies
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted on complex competition between technologies in Denmark. Three technologies were considered, namely propane-air mixing, cyclic catalytic steam reforming and continuous catalytic steam reforming. Results showed that coal gas technology failed due to its by-product's low market. Meanwhile the adoption of gas technology depended on the size of towns. Towns that adopted to gas had to change clients' burners, a modification deemed too inconvenient by larger towns who found the shift to reforming more preferable. The results showed the complexity of competition between technologies.

Dismantling the ivory tower: the influence of networks on innovative output in emerging technologies
Article Abstract:
Empirical data on 419 research organizations are used to analyze the effects of research and development (RAD) networking on the innovative performance of organizations. The data feature the organizations' developments in transgene plant research over 20 yrs. Results reveal that networking enhances the innovative performance of in-house RAD efforts while collaborative RAD projects vary in innovative output.
