The role of selectivity bias in estimates of the rate of return to schooling: the case of married women in Venezuela
Article Abstract:
Estimates of wage equations were derived from two data sets on married Venezuelan women while controlling for sample selectivity to determine the effects of sample selectivity on wage-equation-derived estimates of the rate of return to schooling. The results show that the sample selectivity-corrected estimate of the rate of return to schooling from one data set was 8.6%, much lower than the estimate 12.1% when selectivity is ignored. This means that estimates of the rate of return to schooling may be misleadingly high if there is no sample selectivity correction.

Indonesia's industrial policy and performance: "orthodoxy" vindicated
Article Abstract:
Indonesia's economic growth is attributed to political stability, security, social and physical infrastructure, exchange rate policy and macroeconomic management. Interventionist industrial policy, however, contributed little to Indonesia's economic development despite its success in other East Asian economies. Orthodox economic policies have also enabled Indonesia to respond effectively to national crises.
