Article Abstract:
Pennsylvania Avenue, the site of many parades and marches, had a unique procession on a December Saturday in 1952 when documents related to original declaration of nation's independence were brought along with the Bill of Rights in the Rotunda of the National Archives Building. The Declaration of Independence was carefully wrapped and stored flat in the state department library until 1921.

Sealing the sacred bonds of holy matrimony: Freedmen's Bureau marriage records
Article Abstract:
The value of Freedmen's Bureau marriage records for African American genealogical research is explored. The Freedmen's Bureau recognized the need to offer legal rites of marriage to freedpeople, and to solemnize those commitments that were entered into before emancipation.
