Who has responsibility for a population's health?
Article Abstract:
The loopholes of POPULIS and most population-based research are examined. POPULIS erroneously assumes that health care providers control the health destinies of whole communities instead of individuals and families who are ultimately responsible for their own health outcomes. These individuals likewise exercise free choice in establishing relationships with particular hospitals. In addition, the trend toward increased patient autonomy makes it difficult for providers to gain a concrete hold on their "market". Too many assumptions make POPULIS unworthy of mass marketing.

Health care data: government intervention or private cooperation?
Article Abstract:
A health care data base system is essential to effective health care delivery. Access to health care data facilitates the delivery and quality of services while utilizing the least amount of resources. In addition, the adoption of a POPULIS-inspired system provides easier assessment of an individual's or community's health status. However, the non-uniformity of numerous health care providers and purchases in the US would be an obstacle.
