A cognitive model of binge drinking: the influence of alcohol expectancies and drinking refusal self-efficacy

Article Abstract:

The study reveals that a cognitive model is developed using the key constructs of alcohol expectancies (AEs) and drinking refusal self-efficacy (DRSE) to explain the acquisition and maintenance of binge drinking. It also reveals that since AE and DRSE are cognitive models they can facilitate the design of intervention and prevention strategies for binge drinking.

The study reveals that a self-regulation model was applied for predicting alcohol problem recognition. The contributing role of self-focusing strategies and normative information interventions in reducing alcohol consumption, for problem recognition within the context of a less intrusive survey administration is examined.
