A study of utilization and satisfaction: implications for cultural concepts and design in aging services

Article Abstract:

The high attendance and satisfaction of native aged Hawaiians at the health education and promotion program of a culturally specific project show the importance of designing culturally relevant aging programs for ethnic minorities. The outreach workers in the program formed personal networks among the Hawaiian elderly by maintaining one-to-one relationships. The participants learnt about the program through the network systems. This implies that service designers should incorporate cultural aspects in program planning for the minority elderly.

Bringing together housing and aging services: the experiences of area agencies on aging

Article Abstract:

A housing specialist on the staff of the Area Agencies on Aging (AAA) will be of considerable help in collaborative aging and housing-related activities. Federal and state policymakers should try to develop housing policies for the aged based on cooperation between AAAs and housing agencies and proper funding. Policy-makers need to encourage AAAs to work with housing agencies by the way of incentives.
