An architect's wet-cement dream: Just as termites build castles on Earth, robots could erect skyscrapers on the moon
Article Abstract:
French architect Francois Roche, owner of the firm R&Sie and a master of conceptual architecture, is exploiting an idea for a building called 'Node 1' where he imagines a programmable assembly device called 'viab', a construction robot capable of improvising as it assembles walls, ducts, cables and pipes. Roche imagines his viab as a busy termite with a body full of wet cement, producing structures that are not specific but impermanent and malleable.
