Association between self-report of cognitive impairment, HIV status, and cocaine use in a sample of cocaine-dependent methadone-maintained patients

Article Abstract:

The Neuropsychological Impairment Scale (NIS), a 95-item self-report evaluation tool, was used for 120 cocaine-dependent methadone-maintained patients to evaluate self-awareness of cognitive defects in this population. HIV-seropositive cocaine users had substantially more severe impairment than HIV-seronegative cocaine users on all summary scores and six of seven clinical subscales. There was a significant connection between HIV status and self-report of neuropsychological impairment.

The relationship between self-reported cocaine withdrawal symptoms and history of depression

Article Abstract:

This article examines the relationship between cocaine withdrawal symptoms and mood disorders. The authors maintain that a strong link between severe depression and cocaine withdrawal symptoms exists and may be due to the cocaine users inability to cope with withdrawal or cocaine use had masked depression which was already present.
