Body trance and world trance in Brazilian religion
Article Abstract:
The popular religion of Brazil, called Candomble, that is derived from both west African tradition and from Iberian Baroque Catholicism, stands out as the religion of the body, its emotions and expressions. It is practiced with blood sacrifice, trance, music and dance, and it imposes no code on its devotees, being different from other forms of religion, like Pentecostalism, which are also growing in the country.

The political dimensions of transnational migration and development are analyzed. The conditions that led to state-led transnationalism in the Central American nations of El Salvador and Guatemala are examined.
