Ego-depletion and prejudice: Separating automatic and controlled components

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to investigate the effect of ego-depletion on the automatic and controlled components of stereotype-based responses. Results indicated that ego-depletion reduced the controlled component of responses, but did not affect the automatic component and ego-depletion increased stereotypical responses only among those who showed strong automatic stereotype activation.

Is beautiful always good? implicit benefits of facial attractiveness

Article Abstract:

An expansive literature has documented the benefits of facial attractiveness on a range of explicit measures. Facial stereotypes do indeed exert an automatic influence on people's responses, an effect that is elicited by targets of either sex and displayed by both male and female respondents.

Measuring the automatic components of prejudice: flexibility and generality of the implicit association test

Article Abstract:

Research using the Implicit Association Test (IAT) has demonstrated strong evidence for implicit prejudices based on young vs. old, Christian vs. Jewish, and Soviet vs. American categories. This data helps secure the construct validity of the IAT method.
